Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan” Smashes Opening Day Records, Targets Rs 150 Crore Worldwide Debut

Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release, “Jawan,” has rewritten Hindi cinema history, surpassing its predecessor “Pathaan” in the biggest opening ever. On its debut, “Jawan” grossed a staggering Rs 75 crore, with about Rs 65 crore from the Hindi version and an additional Rs 10 crore from dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions.

This landmark achievement makes “Jawan” the highest-grossing Hindi film on opening day, crossing the Rs 60 crore milestone for the first time. Released on Janamashtmi, the auspicious occasion boosted collections, with predictions of even stronger weekend performance. While “Pathaan” earned a commendable Rs 57 crore on its debut earlier this year, it surged to Rs 70 crore on day two, ultimately reaching an impressive Rs 543 crore overall. This record might soon be surpassed by the highly-anticipated “Gadar 2,” currently standing at around Rs 510 crore.

“Jawan” commanded a substantial 58% occupancy rate across India on day one. Nighttime screenings exhibited an impressive 69% occupancy, while morning shows maintained a commendable 54% occupancy. These figures primarily pertain to the Hindi version, which also garnered significant attention in South Indian states. Positioned as Shah Rukh Khan’s inaugural pan-India release, “Jawan” features renowned director Atlee and acclaimed actors Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. Chennai emerged as the top-performing city nationwide, boasting an impressive 81% occupancy rate. Mumbai reported a steady 55% occupancy throughout the day, while the NCR region demonstrated slightly higher figures at 60%. Hyderabad and Kolkata also showcased impressive occupancies at 75% and 73%, respectively.

In the realm of Tamil-language screenings, “Jawan” exhibited robust nighttime attendance, recording an impressive 70% occupancy. IMAX presentations witnessed a commendable overall occupancy rate of 61%. Globally, the film secured approximately 10,000 screens for its release. Esteemed trade analyst Ramesh Bala anticipates a staggering worldwide gross opening of over Rs 150 crore, a groundbreaking achievement for a Hindi movie. “Jawan” not only boasted the highest pre-sales figures for any Hindi film but also clinched the title of the fourth-largest opener in Indian cinema history, trailing only behind “RRR” (Rs 223.5 crore), “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” (Rs 214.5 crore), and “KGF: Chapter 2” (Rs 164.5 crore).

In summary, “Jawan” has rewritten opening day records in Hindi cinema, with Shah Rukh Khan proving his immense draw at the box office once again. Expectations are high for the film’s continued success.
