Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, presently under judicial custody until September 23, has been enjoying certain privileges while in jail. These privileges, including home-cooked meals, medication, and a dedicated room, have been granted by a court.
An ACB Court has instructed the superintendent of Rajamahendravaram Central Prison to arrange separate accommodations for the 73-year-old Naidu due to a perceived security threat. It’s worth mentioning that Naidu is under the protection of Z-plus category security
“The superintendent of the central prison is directed to provide all special amenities, including food (cooked at home), medication, and a special room in the central prison to petitioner/A37 (Naidu),” the order stated. Additionally, it authorized the superintendent to detain Naidu in custody and produce him in court on September 22, 2023, at 10:30 a.m.
In response to the custody order, the Telugu Desam Party has declared a statewide bandh on Monday to protest their leader’s arrest.
Chandrababu Naidu was presented in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court regarding the Skill Development Corporation Scam. He was arrested in a pre-dawn operation on Saturday in Nandyala for his alleged involvement in this multi-crore scam.
The case revolves around the establishment of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in Andhra Pradesh, with a total estimated project value of ₹300 crore. Investigators claim that the alleged fraud cost the state government over ₹300 crores, citing irregularities such as the government providing an advance of ₹371 crores to private entities before any expenditure occurred.
