The Ministry of Interior in Morocco reported that the death toll doubled overnight, with 51 of the injured in critical condition. The earthquake’s epicenter was near Marrakesh, a major city in the region, and there have been reports of collapsed buildings in the city’s historic old district, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Additionally, local television has shown images of a mosque minaret that collapsed onto cars.
