Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, expresses concern over the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia, suggesting a potential link between agents of the Indian government and the assassination.
Nijjar was fatally shot outside a temple in June, raising tensions within the Sikh community and between Sikh separatists and the Indian government.
Trudeau stated that there are “credible allegations of a potential link” between the Indian government’s agents and the killing. He has conveyed Canada’s concerns to top Indian intelligence and security officials and discussed the matter with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the recent Group of 20 meeting in New Delhi.
The Canadian Prime Minister emphasized that any involvement by a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is considered an unacceptable violation of sovereignty. This development has raised diplomatic tensions and is being closely monitored by international observers.
