Kamal Haasan, the actor-turned-politician, has announced his candidature for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Coimbatore, aiming to rejuvenate his political career. Speaking to party members in Coimbatore, Haasan expressed his determination to bounce back on the national stage despite his unexpected defeat in the 2021 assembly elections against BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan.
In the meeting, Haasan emphasized the importance of learning from past electoral defeats and outlined the party’s strategy for the upcoming parliamentary elections. He encouraged the establishment of booth-level committees to bolster MNM’s presence on the ground.
MNM, which secured a 3.7% vote share in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, witnessed a decline in performance during the 2021 assembly elections, securing only 2.5% of the votes without winning any seats.
While Haasan maintains friendly relations with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the DMK, it remains uncertain whether MNM will align with the INDIA group, a coalition of 28 political parties formed to challenge the BJP’s dominance. Despite the setback, Kamal Haasan is committed to his political journey and is gearing up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with renewed vigor.
