Gurugram Woman Falls Prey to Bumble Scam, Duped of Rs 1 Lakh by Fake Boyfriend

In an unfortunate turn of events, a 35-year-old PhD scholar from Gurugram was deceived by an online scam through the popular dating app Bumble. The scam, which involved a fraudulent scheme by someone pretending to be a doctor from the United Kingdom, resulted in the victim losing around Rs 1 lakh. The woman, employed at the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR)-IMTech in Gurugram, encountered the scam after connecting with a person named Dr. Aayaan Kumar George on the Bumble app.

According to reports, the victim received a call from the supposed “boyfriend” claiming that he had arrived at the Delhi airport with his mother to meet her. Subsequently, she received a call from a fake customs officer who alleged that the man had exceeded the legal limit of UK pounds allowed for entry. Under pressure, the victim transferred significant sums of money as instructed by the scammers, only to realize later that she had fallen victim to a well-orchestrated online fraud.

The incident sheds light on the increasing prevalence of online scams in India, with fraudsters using various tactics to exploit unsuspecting individuals. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. As online scams continue to evolve and adapt, it is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and exercise caution when engaging with strangers, especially on online platforms.
