Shah Rukh Khan’s latest cinematic offering, “Dunki,” directed by the renowned Rajkumar Hirani, is making waves at the box office as it approaches the coveted ₹200 crore milestone. The film, which narrates the aspirations of a group of friends aiming to relocate to London, garnered a robust ₹9.25 crore on its 12th day in theaters, bringing its domestic total to ₹196.97 crore.
Supported by a stellar cast including Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and Boman Irani, “Dunki” has been a collaborative effort of industry giants Red Chillies Entertainment, JIO Studios, and Rajkumar Hirani Films. Beyond the Indian market, the film’s global success is evident, nearing the ₹400 crore mark with a cumulative collection of ₹380.60 crores.
Addressing the curiosity surrounding the film’s title, Shah Rukh Khan took to social media to elucidate its meaning. In an Instagram post featuring a promotional version of the film’s hit track “O Maahi O Maahi,” he clarified, “Dunki signifies the pain of being away from loved ones and cherishing every moment when together.”
Adding a touch of humor to the film’s narrative, Taapsee Pannu, one of the lead actors, shared an intriguing anecdote about her journey to securing a role in “Dunki.” She recounted her initial skepticism upon hearing rumors of her potential involvement in the project, only to be pleasantly surprised when Rajkumar Hirani himself confirmed her casting.
