Cyber Criminals Loot Over Rs 5 Crore Daily in Telangana, Urgent Need for Awareness

The rising threat of cyberfraud in Telangana sees criminals looting over Rs 5 crore daily, with an estimated tenfold more lost in unreported cases. The majority of victims fail to report incidents to the police during the critical “golden hour,” allowing cybercriminals to swiftly convert stolen funds into vouchers and transfer money to other accounts. A.V. Ranganath, the city’s joint commissioner for CCS and SIT, emphasizes the urgency of increasing public awareness to combat cybercrime. Rather than solely focusing on post-incident investigations, the police aim to empower potential victims with knowledge, encouraging timely reporting and preventing financial losses. Special teams are actively identifying notorious cybercriminals, promising swift action against them. To disseminate information effectively, the police plan to leverage traffic police equipment, including electronic signboards, to alert the public about cybersecurity measures and the importance of reporting incidents promptly.
