In a distressing incident on November 23, an animal rights activist in Tamil Nadu narrowly escaped an attack by an assailant wielding a sickle. The activist, Sai Vignesh, filed a police complaint recounting the harrowing encounter that occurred as he was en route to Chennai.
According to Vignesh, the assailant identified him before attempting to attack him with a sickle after forcing him to stop his vehicle. Fortunately, Vignesh managed to escape the assault, fleeing to safety in his car. Despite the blurry photo he captured of the assailant, the identity remains unknown.
Sai Vignesh, known for his active involvement in rescuing and sheltering animals since 2017, has previously faced multiple threats to his life. His dedicated efforts against illegal cattle smuggling, linked to his work against animal trafficking, have made him a target for those involved in the illicit trade.
This recent incident adds to a series of threats, with previous attempts on Vignesh’s life reported in 2018, 2021, and 2022. In response to the attack, Vignesh promptly filed a police complaint, leading to the registration of a case under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief causing damage), and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the identity of the assailant and ensure the safety of the dedicated animal rights activist, Sai Vignesh
