The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has unveiled a significant breakthrough from its Chandrayaan-3 mission, shedding light on the lunar surface’s elemental composition. ISRO revealed that one of the instruments onboard Chandrayaan-3, the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) instrument, has successfully conducted in-situ measurements of the elemental composition near the lunar South Pole.
Of particular note is the detection of Sulphur (S) on the lunar surface, a revelation that marks a historic first in lunar exploration. This confirmation is deemed highly significant as it was previously unattainable through instruments installed on orbiters.
ISRO’s achievement showcases the advancement of scientific knowledge regarding the Moon’s elemental makeup and provides valuable insights into its geological and chemical properties. The LIBS instrument’s groundbreaking findings open doors for further comprehensive research and enhance our understanding of the Moon’s history and evolution.
I’m just gonna come out and ask. When are we going to start living there? Can anyone please tell me?
