Delhi Police's Breakthrough: Cracking the Cases of Jigisha Ghosh and Soumya Vishwanathan

Delhi Police achieved a significant breakthrough in the cases of the brutal murders of IT professional Jigisha Ghosh and television journalist Soumya Vishwanathan, using crucial evidence including a distinct hand tattoo, a stolen wireless set, and meticulous analysis of CCTV footage. Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, and Baljeet Malik, initially apprehended for the murder of Ghosh in 2009, later confessed to their involvement in Vishwanathan’s killing in 2008. Their revelations led to the arrest of two additional individuals – Ajay Kumar and Ajay Sethi – and the eventual conviction of the accused in an organized crime syndicate.

The investigating officer, Atul Kumar Verma, emphasized the role of critical leads derived from the perpetrators’ distinctive attributes, such as a hand tattoo and the stolen wireless set obtained from the CCTV footage. Further scrutiny of Delhi Police’s human intelligence network led to the apprehension of the perpetrators, ultimately unraveling a series of events that culminated in the tragic deaths of both victims.

Verma’s team discovered that the accused had not only looted and murdered Ghosh but also made unauthorized purchases using her debit cards. Subsequently, it was revealed that the same perpetrators were responsible for the untimely demise of Vishwanathan. The in-depth investigation, spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Police HGS Dhaliwal and ACP Bhisham Singh, involved the meticulous collection of forensic evidence to corroborate the confession statements of the accused.

Details of the harrowing incident involving Vishwanathan’s murder unveiled a disturbing sequence of events, with the perpetrators resorting to gunfire when she refused to halt her vehicle. The assailants, under the influence of alcohol, fled the scene momentarily, only to return later, confirming their involvement in the heinous crime.

The successful conviction of the perpetrators was attributed to the recovery of the murder weapon, the alignment of forensic evidence with the incident sequence, and the verification of confession statements. The Delhi Police’s relentless efforts and methodical investigative approach were pivotal in securing justice for the victims and their families.
