AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami criticized the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, accusing it of orchestrating a mere “drama” with its recent signature campaign against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). During an event in Salem, he emphasized that the DMK had previously pledged to eliminate NEET if elected, yet had now launched a campaign seeking 50 lakh signatures to scrap the examination, just months before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Palaniswami further asserted that despite past portrayals of the AIADMK as a party opposing minority interests, it was, in fact, the only political entity genuinely advocating for the welfare of minorities in the state. Highlighting the party’s track record, he emphasized that under AIADMK’s governance, Tamil Nadu remained peaceful even during nationwide unrest following the Babri Masjid demolition.

Refuting claims of being aligned with the BJP, Palaniswami clarified that the AIADMK prioritizes its principles over temporary political alliances. He emphasized the party’s inclusive approach, emphasizing that it does not discriminate based on religion or caste.

Palaniswami also criticized the DMK’s performance as part of the Opposition INDIA bloc, highlighting the lack of progress in resolving the longstanding Cauvery water dispute with Karnataka. He underscored the necessity for the elected government to fulfill its duties for the benefit of the public.

Refuting the allegations of the AIADMK being the “B team” of the BJP, he reiterated the party’s independent stance and commitment to serving the people of Tamil Nadu.
