Four Arrested in Connection with Gangster Sumit Yerunkar's Murder in Mumbai

In a significant development, the Mumbai police apprehended four individuals linked to the recent murder of local gangster Sumit Yerunkar, commonly known as Pappu, from Chunabhatti area. The arrests follow the unfortunate incident on Sunday afternoon, where Yerunkar was fatally shot, sustaining 21 bullet wounds. Additionally, the gunfire led to injuries to four others, including an eight-year-old girl, who are currently undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

The quartet arrested in connection with the Chunabhatti firing has been identified as Sunny Patil, Sagar Sawant, Naresh Patel, and Ashutosh Gavan, all hailing from Chunabhatti. They were presented before the court on Monday and have been placed in police custody until January 5.

Sources within the police department disclosed that a longstanding feud existed between Yerunkar and Sunny Patil, stemming from past criminal involvements. Although the two had previously collaborated on certain activities, their relationship soured over time, leading to ongoing animosity. This discord is believed to have been the motive behind the revenge plot that culminated in Yerunkar’s tragic demise.

Delving into Yerunkar’s past, records indicate that he had previously faced legal repercussions, notably being arrested in a 2016 case involving gunfire directed at the office of Arihant Builders. While he was acquitted of these charges earlier this year, police sources highlight that Yerunkar was implicated in at least four other criminal cases, underscoring the complex nature of the incident and the individuals involved.
