Gunfight in J&K's Shopian Results in Demise of One TRF Militant

A recent clash in south Kashmir’s Shopian resulted in the death of a militant during an early morning gunfight, as confirmed by the police. The militant, reportedly affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a group believed to be a shadow entity of Laskhkar-e-Toiba (LeT), was neutralized during the operation. The security forces have initiated search operations to ascertain the presence of any other militants in the vicinity.

According to reports, the security forces, including a joint team of J-K Police and the army, cordoned off the Kathohakan village in response to specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants in the area. The militants, upon being confronted, engaged in gunfire with the security personnel, leading to a fierce exchange. Subsequently, the TRF militant was killed in the encounter.

In a recent update, J-K Police revealed, “ShopianEncounterUpdate: One (01) #terrorist affiliated with proscribed #terror outfit TRF neutralised. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow.”

The region has witnessed a decline in such confrontations over the past year, attributed by security officials to various factors including the diminishing number of militants, their avoidance of cellular communication, and a weakening human intelligence network.
