IMD Predicts Continued Rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Extending Post-Cyclone Challenges

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts indicating that Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala are set to experience more rainfall in the next 2–3 days, further complicating the challenges faced by these regions.

Continued Rainfall Forecast

According to the latest IMD predictions, light to moderate rain, accompanied by gusty winds, is expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next 2–3 days. This forecast follows the recent aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, which brought heavy rains and disrupted normal life in Chennai and surrounding areas.

Recent Rainfall and Its Impact

On Saturday, certain areas in Tamil Nadu and Kerala witnessed rainfall. Tirunelveli and Coonoor in Tamil Nadu recorded 2 cm of rainfall, while Vadavathoor in Kerala received 3 cm of rain. The lingering effects of Cyclone Michaung have led to continued challenges, particularly in Chennai, where educational institutions have remained closed since December 4 due to heavy rains and subsequent flooding.

Financial Aid Announcement and Calls for Increase

In response to the challenges faced by residents, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced financial aid on Saturday. Each affected family in Chennai is assured a sum of Rs 6,000 as immediate relief. However, there are calls for an increase in the relief amount, with Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai urging the government to raise the aid to Rs 10,000 per affected family. He emphasized the need for additional support, noting that the state government has not contributed a single penny towards the relief fund.

As Tamil Nadu and Kerala brace for more rainfall, the region grapples with the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, necessitating ongoing relief efforts and support for those affected
