In a daring operation, Jharkhand Police successfully arrested six individuals allegedly involved in cybercrimes, navigating a river chase to apprehend the suspects. The police team, donned in plain clothes, encountered the cybercriminals along the banks of the Barakar river, prompting a swift attempt by the suspects to escape by jumping into the river. Despite the challenges, law enforcement officers managed to apprehend all the suspects.
During the strategic raids across various areas, the police seized significant evidence from the arrested individuals. The recovered items include Rs 8,29,600 in cash, 12 mobile phones, 21 ATM cards, 18 SIM cards, 12 passbooks, six chequebooks, four PAN cards, and two Aadhaar cards.
According to a senior police official in Giridih, Jharkhand, the cybercriminals engaged in fraudulent activities such as making nude video calls through apps and taking screenshots to blackmail their victims. Their deceptive tactics extended to targeting pregnant women, luring them with false promises of maternity benefits through a nutrition tracker app.
In addition to facing challenges during the river chase, the police also encountered initial hostility from local villagers. Rumors of child theft circulated, leading to a misunderstanding among the villagers. Despite these hurdles, the police successfully carried out the operation, ensuring the arrest of the cybercriminals involved in duplicitous activities.
This incident highlights the relentless efforts of law enforcement in tackling cybercrimes and ensuring the safety of the community.
