Kapil Sibal Questions Government’s Dual Face on Akbar in G20 Booklet

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal raised concerns regarding the government’s dual narrative on Mughal emperor Akbar. He criticized the government for presenting conflicting images, one for the international community and another for the Indian populace.

The controversy revolves around a G20 booklet titled “Bharat: The Mother of Democracy,” which extensively discusses Akbar’s rule. The booklet argues that Akbar practiced an inclusive form of governance, transcending religious boundaries.

Sibal pointed out this inconsistency in the government’s approach. In a recent tweet, he questioned, “G20 Magazine: Government celebrates Mughal emperor Akbar as a champion of peace and democracy! One image for the world, another for India that is Bharat! Can we know the real ‘mann ki baat’?”

The portrayal of Akbar as a democratic pioneer in the booklet has ignited a broader conversation on historical narratives and their interpretation. This discussion underscores the significance of historical figures like Akbar in shaping India’s identity and the enduring tradition of valuing people’s voices in governance.
