In a diplomatic balancing act, the Indian National Congress has expressed support for Israel while reaffirming its commitment to the Palestinian cause. This response follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent solidarity statement with Israel amid what he termed “terrorist attacks.”
Jairam Ramesh, the Congress communication head, condemned the “brutal attacks on the people of Israel” and called for an end to violence. The party stressed the importance of fulfilling Palestinian aspirations through dialogue, negotiation, and ensuring Israeli national security.
While traditionally supportive of the Palestinian cause, the Congress refrained from criticizing the government’s pro-Israel stance. It highlighted the need for responsible citizenship and voting awareness.
India’s Left parties, known for their pro-Palestine stance, called on the government to uphold the two-state solution and emphasized India’s historical commitment to Palestine.
