The Indian Ministry of Cooperation has given the green light to a transformative initiative aimed at modernizing and digitizing the operations of registrars in all 28 states, 8 union territories, and 1,851 Agriculture and Rural Development Banks (ARDBs) spanning 13 states. This landmark initiative, similar to the computerization scheme for Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS), signifies a major leap toward enhanced efficiency and transparency in the cooperative sector.
Under this centrally sponsored scheme, a unified software will be deployed to computerize the functioning of ARDBs and Registrar of Cooperatives offices nationwide, mirroring the successful Central Registrar model. This move is poised to revolutionize the functioning of these institutions, fostering a more technologically advanced and accessible cooperative landscape.
Crucially, a Central Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) will oversee the scheme’s implementation, ensuring its seamless execution. The Ministry’s forward-looking approach underscores its commitment to empowering cooperative entities and fortifying their role in India’s socio-economic progress. This initiative heralds a significant stride towards a digitally integrated and efficiently governed cooperative sector.
