NCP's Sharad Pawar Group Dismisses Merger Speculations with Congress

In recent developments in Maharashtra’s political landscape, speculations arose regarding the possibility of the Sharad Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) merging with the Congress ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Contrary to these reports, Supriya Sule, MP and daughter of Sharad Pawar, firmly denied any such merger, asserting that their faction would continue to be a part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and participate in the upcoming elections. The merger discussions reportedly surfaced during a meeting between Congress’ Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala, top Maharashtra leaders, and Sharad Pawar. Amidst these rumors, a meeting was held at Pawar’s residence to strategize for the upcoming INDIA bloc rally. It is crucial to note that Sharad Pawar initiated his political career with the Congress, and the NCP was formed in 1999 after a split over the issue of Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origin.
