Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, also the JD(U) national President, explained his decision to leave the Mahagathbandhan and join the BJP-led NDA. Nitish Kumar disclosed that he had suggested an alternative name for the alliance, urging the Congress and other opposition parties to finalize a different title. He criticized the Opposition’s inaction in settling seat-sharing arrangements, emphasizing the lack of progress in this regard.
Nitish Kumar expressed disappointment with the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments on a caste-based survey in Bihar, stating that Gandhi was attempting to falsely claim credit for the initiative. Kumar highlighted how the JD(U) initiated and conducted the survey in consultation with nine political parties. He accused Rahul Gandhi of attempting to take undeserved credit and emphasized the collaborative efforts involved in the survey.
Despite Nitish Kumar’s efforts to encourage a different alliance name and his concerns over seat-sharing, he expressed confidence that the NDA would pass the floor test ahead of the budget session in the Bihar assembly on February 10. The budget session is scheduled to commence on February 12, and Nitish Kumar is optimistic about the NDA’s performance.
In a significant political move, Nitish Kumar left the RJD-Congress-led grand alliance and rejoined the BJP-led NDA in Bihar. He was sworn in as Chief Minister alongside BJP’s Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha as Deputy Chief Ministers on the same day. Nitish Kumar played a pivotal role in uniting 28 opposition parties against the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections
