In a strategic meeting with Bihar Congress leaders, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the need to shift the focus from mere seat sharing discussions to enhancing the party’s influence and performance in Bihar, keeping the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections in perspective.
During the gathering, concerns arose about the Congress party’s position within the Mahagathbandhan alliance, particularly due to its perceived junior status, often resulting in unfavorable seat allocations. Leaders voiced their reservations, recalling past instances where the party received non-competitive seats, seemingly left with the alliance’s leftovers.
However, Rahul Gandhi steered the discourse, directing the party members to redirect their energies towards expanding the alliance by collaborating with smaller outfits. He stressed the significance of bolstering the party’s vote share and fostering inclusivity within the alliance.
Echoing Rahul’s sentiments, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge urged Bihar’s party president, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, to value every alliance member. Using a numerical analogy, Kharge conveyed the importance of unity, implying that even seemingly smaller entities could significantly amplify the alliance’s collective strength.
The meeting, attended by approximately 40 prominent leaders, also featured discussions on the Mahagathbandhan alliance’s united front for the upcoming elections. A subsequent alliance committee meeting, scheduled for December 29, is anticipated to finalize the seat sharing arrangements.
Kharge later expressed confidence in the Grand Alliance’s performance in Bihar, highlighting their dedication to social justice and the state’s progress. The intricate dynamics of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where seat allocations saw the Congress securing nine out of Bihar’s 40 seats, were also revisited.
In a broader context, the Congress party’s national strategy was evident, with concurrent meetings held with leaders from regions like Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Punjab, underscoring the party’s comprehensive approach to the forthcoming national elections.
