On December 13, during the Winter Session, the Lok Sabha, India’s lower house of Parliament, witnessed a significant security breach as two individuals jumped from the public gallery into the chamber.
The intruders, armed with tear gas canisters, released yellow smoke, creating scenes of chaos as they climbed over desks while chanting slogans. Swift action by MPs and security personnel led to their detention.
Simultaneously, outside the Parliament, two protestors were detained for using similar yellow smoke. The timing of the incident, coinciding with the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, heightened its sensitivity. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla promptly ordered an investigation, with the Delhi Police’s anti-terror unit involved in questioning the detainees.
Four individuals have been arrested, and one more is under scrutiny. The breach forced the adjournment of the house, raising concerns about parliamentary security protocols.
