The Flash: WB Box Office Disaster

Warner Bros.’ latest DC superhero film, “The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller and Michael Keaton, appears to be heading towards a significant financial loss. After its premiere, the movie opened to a disappointing domestic box office collection of $55 million. Unfortunately, its second weekend saw a staggering 72% decline, with earnings plummeting to a mere $15.3 million. Industry experts are now dubbing it a potential box office disaster.

Luiz Fernando, a box office analyst, estimates that “The Flash” may earn around $280-310 million worldwide during its theatrical run. However, when considering the film’s production budget of $200-220 million, an additional $150 million spent on marketing, and the fact that studios do not receive the entirety of the box office revenue, the movie could end up costing Warner Bros. a whopping $200 million.

Fernando suggests that releasing the film exclusively on the streaming platform HBO Max or not releasing it at all might have resulted in a smaller financial loss for the studio. This unfortunate turn of events underscores the risks and challenges faced by the film industry, even with highly anticipated superhero franchises.

As “The Flash” continues its box office run, Warner Bros. will closely monitor its performance and hope for a significant turnaround to mitigate the potential financial setback.
