Titanic Tourist Submarine Missing

The US Coast Guard has confirmed that a Canadian P-3 aircraft detected underwater noises in the search area for the missing tourist submarine. The sub, operated by OceanGate, disappeared on June 18 during a dive to the Titanic wreckage in the Atlantic Ocean. The submarine, known as the Titan, was carrying five people.

The Coast Guard shared via Twitter that the noises were detected, and subsequent ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) searches were conducted to investigate their origin. However, these searches have not produced any positive results so far. The data collected by the Canadian aircraft has been handed over to US Navy experts for further analysis, which will influence future search plans.

The search operation covers an expansive area exceeding 20,000 square kilometers, larger than the state of Connecticut. Canadian Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard teams, along with the New York state air guard, are participating in the rescue efforts. In addition, a French research vessel and British company Magellan, specializing in deep ocean investigations, have joined the mission.

OceanGate’s Titan submersible, a truck-sized vessel, typically conducts dives to a depth of 3,800 meters and carries a four-day emergency oxygen supply. The sub offers exclusive eight-day trips to explore the Titanic wreckage, priced at $250,000 (over two crore rupees) per person.
