Trade Unions and Samyuktha Kisan Morcha Call for Bharat Bandh, Partial Disruption Expected

Normal life in parts of India is anticipated to be partially disrupted on Friday as various national organizations, including the Samyuktha Kisan Morcha, have called for a Bharat Bandh. The Samyuktha Kisan Morcha has organized a day-long Grameen Bharat Bandh, while national-level trade unions are striking to protest against the Centre’s decision to impose stricter punishment in hit-and-run cases. Dr. G. Sanjeeva Reddy, president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (Intuc), announced a rally from the Intuc office at Narayanguda to Dharna Chowk, where a meeting will be held at 1 pm. Autorickshaw drivers’ unions are set to protest from Sundarayya Vignana Kendram at Baghlingampally to Himayatnagar crossroads, demanding a transport welfare board, fare increases, and the implementation of the Telangana government’s promise of financial aid. Mohd Omar Khan of the Autorickshaw Drivers Union, Aituc, emphasized that fares have not been revised since 2013. The TS Private Transport Mazdoor Maha Sangh, however, has opted not to participate in the strike.
