Two Indians to Participate in the Diamond League Finals

Indian athletes Neeraj Chopra and Sreeshankar Murali have earned their spots in the prestigious Diamond League final scheduled for September 16 and 17 in Eugene. Both athletes secured their places by finishing in the top six on the points table at the conclusion of the Zurich leg of the Diamond League.

Despite not putting forth his best performance in Zurich, Neeraj Chopra, the javelin thrower and newly crowned World Champion, managed to secure the third position on the points table with a total of 23 points. Sreeshankar Murali, a long jumper, also secured his spot in the final, finishing third on the charts with 14 points.

Chopra’s performance in Zurich included a throw of 85.71 meters in the sixth and final round, earning him second place behind the Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, who achieved a distance of 85.86 meters. The competition was close, with Julian Webber of Germany finishing third with a throw of 85.04 meters.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian athletics as both athletes prepare to compete on the global stage in the Diamond League final. Can we hope for similar success during the Olympics as well?
