In a daring incident, at least 10 unidentified armed men reportedly looted a staggering amount of Rs 18.85 crore from the Punjab National Bank (PNB) located in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Thursday evening. This marks the third bank loot in Manipur since ethnic clashes erupted on May 3.
The armed gang, equipped with various weapons, including AK rifles, overpowered the bank manager and a security personnel stationed near the Strong Room. The incident occurred after regular transaction and deposit activities had concluded for the day, with the bank staff still inside, closing the main gate.
CCTV footage from inside the bank captured the armed men in olive green, Khaki uniforms, and tracksuits executing the heist with precision. The criminals entered through an entrance typically used only by bank staff.
M Kumuni, the manager in-charge of the bank, revealed that eight security personnel were posted for duty; however, not all were present during the robbery. The gang successfully looted a substantial amount of Rs 18.85 crore before fleeing the scene.
In response to the incident, the police have initiated an investigation, registering a case. Today, the bank staff and security personnel will undergo questioning to gather more information and aid the ongoing inquiry into this audacious bank robbery in Ukhrul, Manipur
